Meet the girlies behind the podcast

  • Raja Estes - Host

I’m a neuroscience graduate student studying the formation of the glial cell type known as astrocytes. I have been motivated to increase access to science for everyone, and I’ve always been curious as to how someone builds a career in a system that was not designed with them in mind. When I am not studying the brain and building the podcast, I love expressing myself through art, fashion, and spending time in the trees and mountains.

  • Nina Luong

I love science because every day is different! Some days I could be imaging, while other days I'll be doing electrophysiology. You never know what the week will bring. I also love miniatures, and biology is truly learning about small things inside smaller things!

  • Tania Miramontes

Since the first time, I saw a brain slice with neuropeptides labeled throughout, I knew research was for me. I was amazed that we are able to see where these small proteins and molecules are located and how they work in the body. Outside of lab I love all sorts of crafts, fashion, and reality tv.

  • Joselinne Medrano

I am a graduate student in the labs of Dr. John Williams and Dr. Angela Ozburn. I have always found joy and wonder in observing and understanding how the world works. I think everyone should have access to learn about and follow this as a career path. Outside of the lab, I love to go on walks with my family and dog!

  • Juliana Cuartas

I am a graduate student in Dr. Swetha Murthy's lab studying the proteins that allow cells to sense when they are being touched and stretched.Science communication has taught me that what for me might be just a fact, for someone else may sound magical, and I believe everyone deserves to have that feeling of wonder about the world.Favorite hobby: hiking with my dog and finding new lakes and rivers to jump into.
